Auckland tourists

Our last full day in Auckland started early as we joined the end of the morning peak hour rush across the harbour bridge to the city. We made our way to Newmarket to browse the shops and look for a few odds and ends that were needed / forgotten for the challenges ahead.

We spent some time weaving in and out of shops looking largely at women’s fashion items that were heavily discounted to clear at the end of “jandal” season, according to the signage in one shop we visited. We also went seeking the local delis for a decent coffee for morning tea and ended up at Zarbo, where we also took the time to scan their cookbooks for interesting recipes. A few covert photos were snapped of interesting recipes as a result.

We sent a text to Sarah and Max and managed to catch up with them in Chicago via Skype. Unfortunately there was a lot of background noise in the deli and we struggled to hear a lot of what was said. The highlights were communicated well enough and we will possibly try again when we get to Queenstown.

After lunch we motored back across the the harbour bridge, noting there was far less traffic as we headed north in search of the Albany shopping mall. Spotting the Farro deli served as a distraction and we pulled in to browse the shelves. A range of freeze dried berries and fruit caught our attention. The range was complimented with interesting recipes that used the ingredients on offer.

After consulting our iPad we navigated our way to the local mall and found the items needed before heading south to Queenstown. A stroll around the mall was the extent of our walking today before returning to the car and driving back to our apartment. We’re off out for dinner tonight – possibly Thai if we can agree on the cuisine of preference.
