Departed Melbourne according to plan, swinging by Sandringham East Primary School to pick up Wendy before heading north through the city. Managed to get away just early enough to avoid the evening traffic and made good time getting out on to the open road.
Our journey had us crossing the Murray river at Tocumwal then following the Newell Hwy through Findlay to Narrandera. A clear still night and little traffic made it good for driving and in what seemed no time at all, we were searching out a place to set up camp for the night. A quick check of the Camp Snaps guide and we found a place just south of Narrandera that we had all to ourselves (initially).
We quickly set up the Tvan (took between 5 and 10 minutes) and were enjoying the decision to buy another warm blanket as the temperature dropped to around 4C overnight. Ended up sharing our camp site with a truckie who was hauling a refrigerated load – the compressor kicked in every 15 minutes to keep the load cold. The noise of the compressor tended to shatter the silence with a bit of a jolt!
