Granite Gorge, Mareeba

Exploring Granite Gorge

Had a relaxing day in and around Mareeba today after the last of the Cape roads yesterday. The birds woke us around dawn and we tried to ignore them as long as possible without luck.

Headed into Mareeba this morning to stock up and ended up approaching the checkout with an overflowing trolley. Mainly fresh fruit, vegies and meat – things that were in short supply on the Cape. Next big shop will be Normanton.

We also took time out to visit ‘Coffee Works’, an outlet the specialises in local coffees (and chocolate). Had a half decent latte – the first for some time!

Spent the afternoon stacking away the supplies, tying down a replacement gas bottle and a quick check of the Prado and Tvan before heading off for a walk (actually a scramble / climb) through the granite boulders following the course of a creek downstream. Tough going but really interesting. We could only wonder what it must be like in the wet season.
