First full day out of Melbourne

Woke to a very crisp morning and were back on the road in no time. Headed straight to the Narrandera bakery for breakfast where a coffee and ham & cheese croissant helped blow the cobwebs away. Not long after Narrandera we drove through a flock of birds and one decided to hitch a ride with us for about 300kms before I could encourage it to part ways with the Prado!

We went geocaching at lunch time and were successful while also stretching the legs after a few hours sitting. Continued in a gradual north east arc, stopping at Moree for dinner before heading out to our final overnight destination on the roadside about 64kms beyond Goondiwindi.

During the night we had one truckie pull over and share the rest area – fortunately no compressor kicking in every few minutes this time. Woke to a clear sky with patches of fog about and were back on the road within minutes of rising.

Before arriving at Millmerran we were flagged over by a Police car that was part of a larger entourage escorting the biggest semi-trailer we had ever seen. It was like an episode from those programs called “monster moves” where we were confronted with 3 prime movers connected together hauling what looked like mining equipment on a trailer that was so long it was steered from the front and rear, then followed by another 2 prime movers pushing the rear of the load along. Not only was it long, but it also took up both lanes of the Newell Hwy. Fortunately for us, it was going in the other direction with a long line of vehicles trailing behind. Once it passed we were on our way with no further delay!
